A Ten Point Plan for Populist Democrats.
Fix the rigged tax system.
*Scrap the cap on SS (payroll) taxes. Rich must Social Security tax on all income.
*Tax wealth at same rate as work. Equalize capital gains & income tax rates.
*Stop the generational transfer of income inequality. Reform estate taxes.
*End stock buybacks. Lower the CEO-to-average-worker salary ratio.
A healthy capitalist democracy depends on fair markets with fair rules. Tax policy is not just about raising revenue. It is about maintaining public trust in America. If citizens conclude that the most powerful people operate under a different set of rules, the damage will extend far beyond the federal budget. A tax system that is widely viewed as rigged weakens both our economy and our democracy.
No taxation without representation. Four million American citizens living in Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia pay federal taxes but have no voting members in Congress. Extend statehood to DC and Puerto Rico.
One person, one vote. The Voting Rights Act must be permanently restored to:
*Eliminate partisan and racial gerrymandering;
*Remove arbitrary barriers to voting;
*Regulate the influence of money on elections; and
*Enforce strict penalties for any interference with the process of free and fair elections.
Term limits for all federal elected offices.
Thanks for your service. Time to give someone else a chance.
Abolish the filibuster. Except in very rare instances, the majority should decide all votes in the US Senate.
Abolish the Electoral College. Whoever wins the popular vote should become President.
End Supreme Court Corruption. Justices should be subject to term limits and a strict, transparent and enforceable code of ethics.
Codify Roe v Wade. Our bodies. Our choice.
Medicare for all. Nobody should go bankrupt because they got sick.
Universal background checks. Stop crazy people from getting guns.
